Fifth Generation of Computer

Fifth Generation of Computer : Artificial Intelligence (2000 - present)

It was thought in the early days of the 1990s that a fifth-generation computer will emerge, which will basically different architecture from Von Newman Architecture.

The goal was a machine which will allow specifications oriented programming and will include Artificial Intelligence features.

In the leadership of Japan, initiatives in various countries and afterward were provided in the UK, Europe, USA, and India.

However, there are no revolutionary architectural changes.

The main results of these efforts are the use of several parallel computer architectures for hundreds of thousands of processors.

Meanwhile, the number of transistors increased continuously that they were running on a chip. This changes the processor architecture.

Mainly this idea was to use many ALUs and on-chip memory to apply the directional level parallel.

In other words, the programmer's model of a processor was not changed, but computers have improved the remarry of more than the primary programs, and the parallel operation was scheduled at many ALUs in the chip.

The processor architecture called the Very Large (VLIW) processor with a direct size of 128-256 bits and which can create multiple parallel instructions.

Intel's new generation processor Itanium used this idea.

Although, this architecture did not popular and Intel closed it. Another important development was a faster improvement in communication technology.

The combination of computing, communication techniques, and the growth of the network bandwidth inspired revolutionary changes.

An important result of this is the emergence of the Internet.

Some computer environments have been used to connect to a computer connected to the Internet.

Grid computing, Cloud computing indie Utility computing are some important events.

Another important trend, mobility which fulfills the user's demand for access to data and processing at any time.

It was met by the emergence of wireless-enabled processor chips, which are used in laptops and hand-composed computers.

The mobile device is battery operated, so it is important to minimize the devices that are designed with low power consumption.

A microprocessor family named ARM processor has emerged and widely used.

Concurrent, efficient OS emerged for mobile devices.

Among them, Apple's operating system called IOS and Google's Android is the most important yet.

Microsoft has introduced Windows 8 OS for mobile devices in 2013.

Other main trends are multimedia's needs, allowing users to use a simple graphical user interface, listening to high-quality audio, and watch the video on mobile phones and desktop computers.

In this generation of computers, we can install software as per our requirements.

There is a lot of computer software on the Internet, but some of the most popular and useful software are:
  • For Office uses: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • For Helth Sector: Electronic health records (EHR), Practice management software (PMS), Programa SNGPC
  • Photo Design: Adobe Photoshop
  • Web browser: Google Chrome
and much more...
